The powder detergent, which has zero carbon sulphate, comes in various scents and tender to fabric and skin. The product sells at P50/kilo in groceries and outlets here. According to Noryn Bagano of the Department of Trade and Industry, a group of Kalinga women conceptualized the project and underwent training on soap making in Manila. Congressman Manuel Agyao shouldered the training cost and provided financial assistance for this project. The Kalinga Soap Makers buy their raw ingredients from Manila and do the process here. Bagano said, at this stage, the group does the mixing manually because of lack of enough funds for a machine mixer. Despite its crude technology, the group is able to mass produce and supplies places outside the province. Their product reaches as far as Paracelis, Mt. Province through a contact trader. Melvin Bangolay, a staff of DTI-Kalinga, who tried using the detergent testifies about the product quality, confirming its cleansing effect and that it is smooth to the hands. With the project as potential source of income, DTI-Kalinga will organize more soap maker groups in other barangays in the province, Bagano said. (PIA-Kalinga) |
