1. History
Cabaruan, the northernmost barangay of Tabuk, Kalinga is (4) kilometers away from the Poblacion. It was founded by the families of the de los Reyes, Angayen, Ancheta, Aniceto, Parrocha, Madriaga and Rosario coming from the provinces of La Union, Mt. Province and Ilocos Sur. After several years, the Sumadels of Tinglayan came to settle in this barangay particularly in Purok Hacienda where they permanently built their houses.
Cabaruan was a sitio of Barangay Balong before. After several years, many people came to reside in this sitio. With the growing number of people, officials of Balong were hard up in dividing their resources, so they decided to separate Cabaruan from Barangay Balong through a resolution by Councilor Soleng and Barangay Captain Ceriaco Aniceto. They appointed Alejandro de los Reyes as OIC- Tenyente del Barrio. The date of its establishment could not be ascertained as there is no written record that exists.
The name Cabaruan came from the Ilocano word “cabaruan” meaning “newest” since this barangay was the newest barangay created during the time. The mixture of new residents could also be attributed to this name given to this barangay. In other version, the people who came from Cabaruan, Cervantes, Ilocos sur were most of the new settlers in this barrio, thus they carried the name of their barangay where they came from. The name was given by the barangay officials during that time.
The puroks within the barangays are all populated at present. Most of the houses could be found galvanized and concreted. Idle lands in this barangay were almost developed whereby large portion are rice fields.

Barangay Cabaruan is the northern most barangay of the City of Tabuk, Kalinga. It is situated four (4) kilometers north of Poblacion. It can be reached calesas, jeepneys, multicabs, center cars and tricycles passing through barangay Laya and barangay Laya West now Jose Anniban and via Balong.
North of Cabaruan is barangay Sucbot of the municipality of Pinukpuk. On the east barangay Balong with the Namecbecan creek defining its boundary and on the west are barangay Lanna and barangay Masablang with the Chico River as the boundary. On the south is barangay Laya West now Jose Anniban.
The barangay has an estimated total land area of 851.649 hectares which is approximately 2% of the total land area of Tabuk. It is the 17th largest barangay of the barangays of the city.
The land area of Barangay Cabaruan is characterized by a flat terrain dewatered by the Chico River which makes agricultural land as the major land use.
The soil classification of the barangay is Umingan Loam suitable for crops like rice, corn sugar cane, root crops and vegetables.
The barangay climate is classified under type III by the weather Bureau. It has two pronounce season namely the dry and wet season. Relatively, dry season is observed from the month of November to April while the rest of the years is generally wet, typhoons frequently occurs during the period from July to October.
The coldest months are December and January while the warmest is observed during the months of April and May.
Barangay Cabaruan has seven puroks namely: Purok 1 or Cabaruan Sur, Purok II or Laod, Purok III or Hacienda, Purok IV or Nangalisan, Purok V or Camarunggayan, Purok VI or Cabaruan Centro and Purok VII or Cabaruan Norte.
Of the tota land area of Cabaruan which is estimated to be 851.649 hectares or 93.42% or 15.546 hectares are for residential and the remaining are arable lands.
Ilocano is the predominant spoken dialect by the barangay residents since all of the houses know how to speak this dialect. There are also other dialects like Kalinga (Sumadel) and Igorot (Mt. Province) but few or at small percentage of the total house hold speak these kind of dialects.
Roman Catholic is the predominant religion of most residents in the barangay. It is estimated that 44.33% total households belongs to this religion.
The total population of barangay Cabaruan for this year 2011 basing to the house t house survey conducted by the barangay officials in one thousand nine hundred ninety eight (1,998). Of this total 52.55% or 1,046 male and 47.45% or 948 are female.
