BULO

1.     History

Barangay Bulo got its name from a plant of the bamboo species called “bulo” in the Kalinga and Ilocano tongues according to the Vilorias, an Ilocano family from Nueva Ecija in 1960 who were the first settlers of the place. The area was a forest of bamboos or “bulo”. At that time, Bulo was a sitio of Agbannawag until 1982 when it was separated as a distinct barangay. The new barangay retained the name Bulo.

The first barangay captain was Mrs. Liwan from Aggawa, Besao. She was replaced by Alberto Ban-os, one of the many settlers from Sumadel in the area, before the opening of the Chico River Irrigation System which irrigated vast tracts of land in the barangay. In the 1987election, Ban-os was replaced by Leon Abaggoy who sat as barangay captain until the elections in 1994 which elected Camilo Maling as the new Barangay Captain. The 1997 election saw the return of Alberto Ban-os   as Barangay Captain. After Alberto Ban-os, Mr. Camilo Chairman was elected as Barangay Captain in 2002 up to the present.
